Les
Trois Garcons for Dover Street Market: January 2009 Johnny Buttons was approached by Les Trois Garcons (acclaimed London-based restaurateurs’ and antique/art dealers’ www.lestroisgarcons.com) to work on their first collaboration with Dover Street Market, London. The brief: To create, develop and manage the design and installation of a signature window piece that complements both partners. ‘The Future of Black’ was the direction given for the project, inspired by the unique antiques and singular pieces that characterize the style of LTG. The design was influenced by taxidermy and the use of wild and exotic creatures; this became the striking sculpted octopus. With tentacles splayed across the ground floor area, the installation towered above the customers (2.5m high) and dominated the space. With its high gloss resin and brushed steel finish it created an impactful, futuristic (and some would say sumptuously surreal) feature to celebrate the SS’09 store-launch. The piece
remained in the window for an extended eight week period. www.highsnobiety.com/news/?s=dover+street+octopus |
